What's life without a creative challenge every now and again?
The Poem A Day Challenge is here to brighten your mind and enlighten your spirit for 30 days by:
Learning new forms of poetry
Writing new forms of poetry
Sharpening poetic skills

Want to play along?

Print the "List of 168 Poetic Forms for Poets" from Writer's Digest, compiled by Robert Lee Brewer.

Cut up the list so that each of the poetic forms is on its own slip of paper.

Fold the slips up, toss them in a cup, shake them up, and let the games begin.

Every morning, pick a poetic form from the cup to learn about and write.

Repeat every day for 30 days.

Waiting for inspiration to strike before writing may take days, weeks, or even years. I know. I've wandered many an arid dry spell. But one doesn't have to be divinely inspired to write. A poem can be whipped up almost anytime and anywhere. So why not write today? Why not write for the next 30 days? Exercising your poetic muscles every day for a month may ignite that spark of brilliance that you've been waiting for.
