Day 28:
Last Nights
"I'll pay it," she said, all lies and mirth
And then stole my son's funeral and last night on earth.
ABOUT THIS POETRY FORM
A landay poem is made out couplets. This may have originated in Afghanistan. They are often sung.
At its least it is a 2 line poem but can run longer.
9 syllables in the first line
13 syllables in the second line
They end on 'ma' or 'na' sounds.
They reveal truths through wit and wordplay
Often revolve around love, grief, war, homelands, etc
Rhymes: no rhyme pattern.
This is what bled out of me as I considered the subjects of love, grief, and war. It's a wound that I don't think will ever heal. I hate leaving this one in the negative, so as an addition to the poem I will just say he wasn't buried in her back yard like she tried to dictate. There's that, at least.
